Opposition Rallies at MIA Blocking Highway
Opposition activists held a rally outside the newly built building of Interior Ministry in the suburb of Tbilisi, located close to the key highway linking Tbilisi with eastern Georgia.
During the rally protesters, led by some of the opposition leaders, including Nino Burjanadze, Davit Gamkrelidze, Zviad Dzidziguri, Levan Gachechiladze, blocked the highway for about forty minutes.
“We have selected that section [of highway] outside the new Interior Ministry deliberately; there are also other roads leading to the airport bypassing the section which was blocked,” Davit Gamkrelidze, leader of New Rights Party, part of Alliance for Georgia, said. “The rally was held there as the Interior Ministry has become a symbol of human rights violations and symbol of violence in Georgia.”
