Five New Ambassadors Nominated
President Saakashvili has nominated five new ambassadors to represent Georgia in OSCE, Estonia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the Gulf states.
Paata Gaprindashvili has been nominated as the ambassador to Austria, as well as Georgia’s envoy to OSCE and Vienna-based international organizations. He will replace Victor Dolidze, who has resigned a month ago to join Irakli Alasania’s opposition movement.
After the Dolidze’s resignation, Gaprindashvili served as Georgia’s acting ambassador in Vienna. In the past he worked at the National Security Council and in 2004 he was a deputy defense minister.
Ruslan Abashidze has been nominated as the Georgian ambassador to Estonia. Presently, he serves as the Deputy State Minister for Reintegration. Currently, Zurab Marshania is Georgia’s chargé d’affaires in Estonia.
Giorgi Kublashvili has been nominated as Georgian ambassador to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, while Ioseb Chakhvashvili will become Georgia’s ambassador to Turkmenistan and Afghanistan replacing Alexi Petriashvili. The latter has also joined the Alasania’s political team.
Ekaterine Mikadze, previously Georgia’s ambassador to Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon, has been nominated as ambassador to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and United Arab Emirates.
