Bagapsh: Agreement to Allow Russia 49-Year Base Stationing

Russia will soon sign a military agreement with Abkhazia envisaging stationing of its base in the region for 49 years, Sergey Bagapsh, the Abkhaz leader told Russia’s Interfax news agency on March 6.

“The work over the agreement is almost over and will be signed in the new future,” Bagapsh was quoted by the news agency.

“This document envisages the deployment of Russian military base in the Gudauta district of Abkhazia for a term of 49 years,” he added.

He also said that Sokhumi and Moscow would also sign a separate agreement envisaging joint protection of border with Georgia.
