Georgian MPs Say Russia Evacuates Tskhinvali Population
Georgian lawmakers have claimed that the Russian side was carrying out an organized evacuating of residents of Tskhinvali as part of its deception maneuver ahead of the planned visit of EU-sponsored mission probing into the August war.
MP Paata Davitaia from the parliamentary minority group, said at a parliamentary session on February 6, that the move aimed at creating false image of “empty Tskhinvali.”
Parliamentary Chairman Davit Bakradze said echoing MP Davitaia’s remarks: “It is done to create a grave picture of empty Tskhinvali and adjacent territories ahead of the EU commission’s visit.”
EU-sponsored inquiry mission into the August war, led by Swiss diplomat, Heidi Tagliavini is visiting Moscow this week and is expected to arrive in Georgia on February 9.
