Saakashvili Plans State of Nation Address in February
President Saakashvili is expected to deliver his annual state of the nation address in Parliament by mid-February, according to Davit Bakradze, the Parliamentary Chairman.
The President annual address will take place five months after the previous one in September.
Recently the Christian-Democratic Party, a leading group within the parliamentary minority, called on the President to change his tradition of leaving the parliamentary chamber after delivering address and to listen to the opposition lawmakers’ questions.
The Christian-Democratic Party has even proposed amendments to the law that would make the President’s presence during the opposition lawmakers’ rebuttal speeches binding. The lawmakers from the ruling party said on January 26, that it was not yet decided what the format of the address would be.
