Russia to Complete Housing of Troops in S. Ossetia by 2010
Russia will complete deployment of military base in breakaway South Ossetia by 2010, according to the Russian military officials in the region.
The South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported citing unnamed Russian military official on the ground that Col. Alexander Ignatenko will be a commander of the base where the Russian 3,700-strong military force will be deployed.
The 693rd motor rifle brigade, which is currently deployed in South Ossetia will make the bulk of the base, according to this report. The Russian military official also said that the Russian forces were currently also deployed in the border areas including in the villages of Perevi, Okona, Dvani, Gujabauri, Ergneti, Prisi, Eredvi, Gromi, Mosabruni and Monasteri.
