Georgia Buries 10 Unknown Soldiers
Bodies of ten Georgian soldiers killed during the August war, which were handed over by the South Ossetian side two days ago, were buried in Tbilisi on November 18.
According to the Georgian Defense Ministry, officials said the identities of the unknown soldiers would become known following DNA examination.
Deputy Defense Minister Mamuka Mujiri said that the bodies of soldiers were handed over to the Georgian side in exchange of a dead body of a Russian pilot. The Russian Defense Ministry, however, denied handover of Russian pilot’s corpse to them.
“It is not true,” Vladimir Drick, an aide to the commander of Russian Air Forces told Interfax news agency on November 18.
A list of fallen soldiers, which is posted on the Georgian Defense Ministry’s website, includes names of 144 servicemen; in addition the list also includes names of 25 soldiers who are formally regarded as missing. The list was last updated on November 5.
