EU Monitors Meet S.Ossetian Official, Russian Commander

A delegation of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) held “technical talks” on October 27 with Mikhail Mindzaev, breakaway South Ossetia’s interior minister, and Anatoly Tarasov, head of the Russian Garrison in Tskhinvali. 

“This meeting was the first EUMM contact so far with the South Ossetian authorities,” the mission said in a statement

The mission said that “at the practical meeting,” EU monitors had asked for information on the structure of law enforcement mechanisms in South Ossetia and their cooperation with Russia.

“The question of EUMM patrols entering South Ossetia was also discussed,” it added.
