Blast Reported near Abkhaz Border

Russian troops moving on a road near the Inguri water reservoir near the Abkhaz administrative border have been targetted in a bomb attack, Interfax news agency reported on October 6. No victims have been reported.

Alexander Novitsky, an aide to the commander of Russian peacekeeping troops in Abkhazia, said that EU monitors observing the troops withdraw, witnessed the attack.

According to the agreement signed by the French and Russian presidents in Moscow on September 8, Russian troops should withdraw from areas adjacent to Abkhazia and South Ossetia by October 10. They are to be replaced by EU observers, who are already on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Georgian side has warned of a series of provocations aimed at delaying the withdrawal of Russian troops.
