Public Defender Sets up New Movement
Georgian Public Defender Sozar Subari set up the Public Movement for Freedom and Justice on September 30.
“The Public Movement for Freedom and Justice is an informal, open association. It is not a political party and does not seek to come into power,” Subari said at the presentation.
Also involved in the new movement are: Kakha Kukava and Zviad Dzidziguri of the opposition Conservative Party; Salome Zourabichvili of Georgia’s Way; Paata Zakareishvili of the Republican Party; Mamuka Glonti, founder of Maestro TV; and various media and NGO figures.
The movement will hold its inaugural session on October 10 to outline future plans.
The establishment of the movement came after the public defender issued a tough-worded statement, in which he spoke out against “authoritarianism” in Georgia.
