Ex-Imedi TV Journalist to Run for Majoritarian MP
Natia Mikiashvili, a former Imedi TV journalist, has been nominated by the parliamentary Georgian Troupe party as a majoritarian MP candidate for the November 3 by-election in Tbilisi’s Didube single-mandate constituency.
Speaking at a presentation of her nomination on September 25, Mikiashvili said that she was sure that “Georgian Troupe was not financially dependent on the authorities.”
As well as Didube, there will also be a by-election in the Vake constituency of Tbilisi. Both contests were called following the resignation of the sitting MPs – the New Rights Party’s Davit Saganelidze and Davit Gamkrelidze – in protest at what they called the fraudulent May 21 parliamentary elections. The ruling party is not contesting either seat.
The deadline for nominations expires on October 4.
