Russia Slams U.S. for Supporting Georgia’s ‘Bankrupt Regime’
The Russian Foreign Ministry said on September 19 that a speech by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice a day earlier was yet another case of “distorting” the facts around “Georgia’s aggression against South Ossetia.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in the statement that such an approach was not at all surprising, because of Washington’s support “for Tbilisi’s bankrupt regime.”
It also said that while expressing regret over the death of several Russian peacekeepers, Secretary Rice “kept silent over the killing of hundreds of civilians in South Ossetia.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow was “not pursuing any geopolitical goal” with its militarily intervention in Georgia. “It was a one-off action… and it doesn’t support a ‘domino theory’.”
