France Rejects Okruashvili Extradition Request

A French appeals court has rejected a request by Georgia to extradite Irakli Okruashvili, a former defense minister, Reuters and The Associated Press reported on September 10.

The decision was expected after France granted Okruashvili political asylum in April.

Tbilisi City Court found Okruashvili guilty of “large-scale extortion” and sentenced him to 11 years in prison in absentia on March 28.
