EU Agrees to Send Monitors to Georgia
EU foreign ministers have agreed to send monitors to Georgia, but the details of their deployment have yet to be worked out, Javier Solana, the EU foreign policy chief, said on September 6.
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner was quoted by Reuters as saying: “We expressed our support for the deployment of an autonomous ESDP [European Security and Defence Policy] mission as part of the OSCE presence in the first instance.”
He was speaking with journalists in Avignon, France after a two-day meeting of EU foreign ministers.
Kouchner also said that Russia should fully honor its commitments undertaken by President Medvedev when he signed the six-point ceasefire accord.
