Tbilisi Wants Sanctions on Companies Investing in Abkhazia, S.Ossetia

President Saakashvili said late on August 29 that Tbilisi was consulting with the United States and European nations on imposing sanction on companies investing in Abkhazia or South Ossetia.

“I have already talked with the Americans on the imposition of sanctions. But first of all it is up to us to draw up appropriate legislation to ban and punish under the law investments in Abkhazia and in the Tskhinvali region,” Saakashvili said. “We are coordinating on this issue with the United States so that it will also undertake similar measures against companies [investing in Abkhazia or South Ossetia]. We are also having talks individually with European states.”
