Russian Military: Troops Pulling Back
Anatoly Nogovitsin, deputy chief of the general staff of the Russian armed forces, said at a news conference in Moscow at 3pm local time that Russia had started pulling back its troops from Georgia.
He specified that it was not a full pull out of troops, as some forces would remain in South Ossetia as peacekeepers.
“Russia has accomplished with dignity its operation aimed at eradication of aggression against South Ossetia,” Nogovitsin said.
Earlier on the same day officials in Tbilisi, as well as the Georgian media sources reported that there were no sign of withdrawal of the Russian troops, which are currently deployed deep inside the Georgian territory.
