Labor Party Activist Arrested
Police arrested on July 25 Archil Benidze, an activist from the opposition Labor Party.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that Benidze was suspected of money laundering.
Although Benidze is a member of the Labor Party, he is a political unknown.
Shalva Natelashvili, the leader of the Labor Party, has condemned previous arrests of party activists as “political persecution.” Natelashvili alleged that Benidze’s arrest was designed to obtain false evidence against him – Natelashvili – to pave the way for his arrest as well.
