Russian, Georgian Diplomats Deny Abkhaz ‘Partition Deal’
Vyacheslav Kovalenko, the Russian ambassador in Georgia, denied a report by the Russian daily Kommersant on ongoing talks over dividing Abkhazia as groundless speculation.
“There is much speculation; a lot of speculation and most of it is just fiction. Let’s leave it on Kommersant’s conscience,” he told Georgian TV on June 27.
Erosi Kitsmarishvili, the Georgian ambassador to Russia, has also dismissed the report.
A senior lawmaker from the ruling party, Nika Rurua, said the report was not even “worthy of a serious comment.” “This is fiction,” he added.
