‘Do not Sow Panic’ – Minister Tells Opposition

Justice Minister, Nika Gvaramia, said opposition politicians were making groundless accusations throughout polling day in an attempt “to create misleading picture.”

“I want to call on political leaders to take more responsible approach while making statements and not to sow panic… They should not try to create misleading picture by making groundless accusations. I call on every leader to refrain from this type of statements,” Gvaramia said.

He, in particular, was commenting on the allegation of Republican Party, which has claimed that it found only in Tbilisi at least 400, what it called, illegal IDs, which were used for multiple voting.

Meanwhile, Davit Bakradze, the ruling party leader, said that “alarming trend” has emerged in last couple of hours, involving opposition members of some precinct commissions quitting their duties and leaving the polling stations.

Opposition members of five precinct election commissions in the Lagodekhi district of eastern region of Kakheti walked out in protest against, what they called, the commission chairmen’s ignorance of grave electoral violations.

“This is very strange move. Commission member should remain at the polling station before the end of entire electoral process and defend each vote,” Bakradze said. “We think this is a sign that the opposition is not interested in elections, election results, or democratic vote counting, but instead it is interested in what they plan after the elections.”

Bakradze was apparently referring to the nine-party opposition bloc’s calls made ahead of polls to stage rallies if the elections were rigged.
