Saakashvili’s Speaks of Better Future in Televised Meeting

President Saakashvili said in a televised meeting with workers of Tbilisi-based aircraft factory that he traversed the country on May 17 and saw ongoing constructions everywhere.

His half an hour speech at the meeting in the aircraft factory TbilAviaMsheni (TAM) was aired live by the Georgian television.

“We are doing recently things which have not been done in Georgia for many years already. Yesterday we opened new port,” he said, referring to oil terminal in Kulevi on Georgia’s Black Sea coast, owned by the Azerbaijani state oil company, SOCAR.

“And today we inaugurated launch of contraction of new airport in Kopitnari [outside Georgia’s second largest town, Kutaisi],” he added.

Airport’s new control tower will be built in Kopitnari and in addition, according to the officials, the airport’s runaway will be rehabilitated.

“Today I inaugurated launch of construction of the largest airport in the South Caucasus in Kutaisi; but I want to tell you which airport will be the best one in South Caucasus and Eastern Europe – this is Babushera airport in Sokhumi, this will be the best airport I am absolute sure about it and I have business plan regarding this project.”

Also on May 17 Saakashvili was in the region of Racha in western Georgia. His trip to the provincial regions, which was extensively covered by the television stations, came just four days before the parliamentary elections. Officially, however, Saakashvili’s trip was not part of his ruling party’s election campaign.

“Our economy grew three-fold in recent three-four years,” he said. “Last year, despite the Russian economic embargo, we had 13% economic growth… When I am speaking about total employment this is not a myth… USD 100 monthly pensions is not a fantasy and it will be available next month… When I became the President there was a cliché to write when reporting about Georgia: Georgia is impoverished, corrupt state in Russia’s neighborhood. No one is writing this kind of things any more… Georgia is now country with growing economy… Let’s spread our wings and let’s move to better future.”

In four-five years Georgia will be the country of innovations, of new ideas and technologies and education centers and leader in this region – this is not a dream this is my business plan.
