Georgian Peacekeeper Wounded in South Ossetia
According to official reports, one Georgian peacekeeper was wounded by a sniper’s bullet in breakaway South Ossetia at dawn.
The wounded peacekeeper was hospitalized as a result of severe injuries sustained in the shootout.
The incident occurred just hours after reaching a ceasefire agreement by the Georgian and South Ossetian sides amid three nights of gun and mortar fire in the breakaway region.
The agreement, which called for the cease-fire to take effect at midnight Friday, was signed by Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania and South Ossetian de facto President Eduard Kokeov.
