Opposition MPs Demand Pullout of Russian Peacekeepers

Opposition non-partisan MPs Koba Davitashvili and Zviad Dzidziguri, backed by suppporters, held a protest rally in front of the Russian Embassy to Georgia on July 23.

They demanded the withdrawal of Russian peacekeeping troops from the Abkhaz and South Ossetian conflict zones, since “their presence does not promote the settlement of conflicts” in Georgia.

“The Russian side only promotes the deepening of conflicts in Georgia’s breakaway regions [of Abkhazia and South Ossetia],” MP Koba Davitashvili said on July 23.
