One Dead in Svaneti Flood

One local resident died and several others are reportedly missing after a flood swept through the Mestia district of high mountain region of Svaneti in north-eastern Georgia in the early hours of July 16.

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania arrived in Svaneti on July 16. According to official reports, the flood caused a huge amount of damage in five villages of the Mestia district.

A special governmental commission will work to determine the extent of the damage caused by the flood.
