Watchdogs Report Irregularities

Local election observer organizations International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) and New Generation-New Initiative (NGNI) said that some irregularities have already been observed in the early hours of the October 5 elections.

?There are some serious issues, which should be immediately addressed by the election administration? In some of the polling stations our observers were barred from entering the precinct, including in Gardabani, Kutaisi and Khelvachauri,? Tamar Zhvania of the ISFED said at a news conference.

She said that ?a very serious violation? was observed in Chokhatauri constituency in western Georgia, where the local majoritarian candidate cast two ballots in different polling stations.

Koki Ionatamishvili of NGNI said that some minor irregularities were observed in respect to delayed openings at some polling stations.

All the polling stations in the capital, Tbilisi are equipped with the video cameras to record election process. Officials say footage will be available for every interested party.
