Putin’s Aide: No Plans for Coup in Georgia

Sergey Prikhodko, a top aide to the Russian President Vladimir Putin, said Moscow has no plans to plot a coup in Georgia, RIA Novosti news agency reported on September 12.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said on August 31 that Russia wants to replace the current government in Georgia by triggering social unrest.

“I, of course, do not know about any plans of Russia to overthrow the Georgian leadership,” Prikhodko said.

The only things that trouble Russia in respect to Georgia are the “dissimilarities between their [the Georgian authorities’] words and deeds,” Prikhodko said.

“We really want Georgia to be a neighborly state… But when, instead of solving major problems, the entire propaganda machinery of a small, but very proud country, works for the creation of an external enemy, on the creation of obstacles… in particular about the peacekeepers, we find it very strange and unnecessary,” he added.
