Minister Says Bomb Plot Foiled

Police foiled an attempt to plant an explosive at the ruling National Movement?s party office overnight on September 9 in downtown Tbilisi, Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili said.

He said that the police arrested one activist of Igor Giorgadze?s Justice Party, who was allegedly trying to plant an explosive outside the National Movement?s office.

?This person was working in the Security Ministry when Giorgadze was the security chief [before 1995] and now he is an activist of the Justice Party [and has] links to the Communist Party, led by Panteleimon Giorgadze [father of Igor Giorgadze],? Vano Merabishvili said.

He said that the suspect possessed 400 grams of TNT explosives.

?Our counter-terrorism center has done a good job. We had information about this person?s intentions in advance,? Merabishvili said.
