Patarkatsishvili ‘Visits’ Tbilisi
Tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili, who has spent the last two months in London, returned to Tbilisi for a business trip that also will include consultations with opposition parties, Imedi television, owned by Patarkatsishvili, reported on September 4.
The opposition New Rights party announced recently that it will try to convince Patarkatsishvili to run in the Tbilisi mayoral race during the October 5 local self-governance elections.
“There is a lot of speculation about the Mayoral nomination and I want to clarify what is going on and make a decision,” Patarkatsishvili said in an interview with Imedi TV, which was recorded in London on September 3 before his departure to Tbilisi.
In the interview Patarkatsishvili also hinted that he may no longer be permanently based in Tbilisi.
He said “unfortunately, it turns out that now I am paying a visit to Tbilisi.”
“In recent years, it was vise-versa: as I was living in Tbilisi, I had to pay visits abroad,” Patarkatsishvili said.
He also said that starting from September 11 he will host a delegation from the News Corporation, which recently bought shares of the Imedi media holding, including the Imedi television station and a Tbilisi-based radio station.
