Sokhumi Says its Checkpoint Attacked in Kodori
The Abkhaz troops? checkpoint in Adanga pass, lower Kodori Gorge, came under fire overnight on September 1, the Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress reported.
A response fire was opened by the Abkhaz troops, according to the breakaway region?s Defense Ministry. No casualties were reported.
?Provocations of this kind trigger tensions and prove aggressive intentions of the Georgian leadership. Action of this kind of the Georgian troops undermines fragile peace in Kodori Gorge, which might turn into a battlefield,? Apsnipress quoted a statement of the unrecognized republic?s Defense Ministry.
Lower part of Kodori Gorge is controlled by the Abkhaz side, while the upper part of the gorge is under the Georgian side?s administration.
