Zourabichvili Comments on Elections

Ex-Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili said on August 30 that her party, Georgia?s Way, has a good chance of winning the October 5 local self-governance elections.

Zourabichvili plans to run in the Tbilisi mayoral race.

?I am the real opposition candidate,? she said at a news conference in Tbilisi.

She also criticized the authorities for setting an earlier local election date than initially promised.

?The announcement of an earlier date is a clear sign of their [authorities?] weakness,? Zourabichvili said.

She also called on voters to actively participate in the upcoming polls to prevent the authorities from rigging the election.
