Peacekeepers, UN Observers Launch Monitoring in Lower Kodori
A joint patrolling of lower Kodori Gorge, which is controlled by the Abkhaz separatist authorities, was launched on August 15, Interfax news agency reported.
?The joint patrolling group consists of CIS peacekeepers and UN military observers,? Vladimir Anikin, spokesperson for the CIS Peacekeeping Forces stationed in the Abkhaz conflict zone, told Interfax on August 15.
He added that the patrolling group is accompanied by the representatives of the Defense Ministry of breakaway Abkhazia.
UN observers will be able to inspect upper Kodori Gorge, which is controlled by the Georgian central authorities, starting from August 20. Tbilisi insisted on simultaneous monitoring in the lower part of the gorge.
