Russia Removes Military Hardware from Akhalkalaki Base

A trainload of three T-72 battle tanks, one T-34 tank, six wheeled combat reconnaissance patrol vehicles BRDM-2 and 100 tons of anti-tank grenades from the Russian military base in Akhalkalaki departed from Tsalka for the Russian Federation via Azerbaijan on August 15, the Georgian Defense Ministry reported.
 
The next train will leave Georgia on August 17, according to the Georgian Defense Ministry.
 
The withdrawal process from the Akhalkalaki military base should be completed before December 31, 2007, according to a March 31 Georgian-Russian agreement.
