Bezhuashvili Condemns Delay in Reopening Border Checkpoint

Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili expressed his protest regarding the delay in reopening the Zemo Larsi border crossing point by Russia.

?The checkpoint was closed with a violation. Today, Russia is also violating agreements by not openly and transparently notifying the Georgian side when the checkpoint will be reopened,? Bezhuashvili told reporters on August 14.

The Zemo Larsi checkpoint, which was closed down by Russia on July 8, is the only legally operating border crossing point between Russia and Georgia. Two others are located in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and are considered illegal by Tbilisi, as they are out of the Georgian side?s control.

The Georgian side has already accused Russia of deliberately closing down Zemo Larsi checkpoint in order to legalize Roki Tunnel which links breakaway South Ossetia with the Russian Federation.
