Buses Trapped Near Tskhinvali

Several passenger buses are trapped near the administrative border of breakaway South Ossetia, after the Georgian Financial Police barred them from entering the unrecognized republic?s capital Tskhinvali.

The passengers are mostly vendors returning from Tbilisi?s outdoor market in Lilo. Reportedly, the Georgian side cites the fight against smuggling as the reason behind the decision to stop the buses, but no official comment has been made yet.

South Ossetian Interior Minister Mikhail Mindzaev has condemned the incident as ?a provocation?, saying that the South Ossetian side will take adequate measures in response, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on August 7.
