Reports: 4 Injured in Overnight Kodori Operation

At least four persons were injured in an ongoing police operation to disarm rebel warlord Emzar Kvitsiani?s militiamen in upper Kodori gorge, breakaway Abkhazia, Georgian media sources reported early on July 26.

Davit Pipia, regional healthcare official, confirmed that several injured persons were hospitalized in Zugdidi, a city in the Samegrelo region, which is south of Svaneti at the administrative border with breakaway Abkhazia.

Imedi radio station reported that at least two injured persons are police officers.

Meanwhile Russian news agencies, citing Russian peacekeeping command in the Abkhaz conflict zone, reported that Georgia sent additional troops ? about 300 ? to Kodori gorge.

Officials say that the police operation is still underway, but declined to comment on details.
