Abkhaz Sources Say Kodori Seems Quiet

Kodori-based rebel warlord Emzar Kvitsiani?s militiamen have stopped their resistance and dispersed into the forest, chief of staff of the breakaway Abkhaz army Anatoly Zaitsev told Interfax news agency on July 26.

?Georgian police forces are currently in Azhara and Gentsvishi villages [of upper Kodori gorge], where they are checking locals? IDs,? Zaitsev said.

He also said that it is currently calm in Kodori and no shooting is reported.

Georgian officials are keeping silent on developments in Kodori gorge, where governmental forces were dispatched on July 25 to confront the rebel Monadire (Hunter) militia group.
