Ex-Foreign Minister Joins Ruling Party’s Campaign Trail
Davit Bakradze, who leads the ruling National Movement party list of MP candidates, joined the party’s campaign trial on May 1, after arrival back from the U.S. and European trips.
Bakradze became number one in the ruling party’s list after Nino Burjanadze, the Parliamentary Chairperson, announced on April 21 about withdrawing from the election because of disagreements over the composition of the list.
“I will visit as many villages as possible and meet as many people during the campaign to better understand problems,” Bakradze said on May 1.
Total of four members of the cabinet – the Foreign Minister, Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Environment and State Minister for Refugees and Accommodation – resigned last month so as to contest the May 21 parliamentary elections.
New agriculture and environment ministers have already been appointed. The Foreign Minister and State Minister’s position remain vacant so far.
