U.S. Senate Committee Calls for NATO MAP for Georgia

The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee has unanimously approved a resolution in favor of extending a NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) to Georgia and Ukraine on February 13.

The resolution, which was introduced by Senator Dick Lugar and the Committee Chairman Joe Biden, reads: “The United State should take the lead in supporting the awarding of a Membership Action Plan to Georgia and Ukraine as soon as possible.”

“We encourage Georgia to continue progress on political, economic and military reforms, including strengthening judicial reform, as well as peaceful resolution of outstanding conflicts on its territory,” it also reads.

Meanwhile, the Estonian, Latvian, Polish, Italian and German ambassadors to NATO are continuing their visit to Georgia. They are due to hold a meeting with opposition politicians from the nine-party coalition on February 14.
