Saakashvili Youth Wing Established

A group of students launched a campaign on December 11 in support of Mikheil Saakashvili’s re-election as President.

The group’s leadership is drawn from student organizations affiliated to the ruling National Movement Party.

“We decided to launch this campaign because we do not want Georgia to be bought by the oligarch,” Giorgi Avaliani, one of the leaders of the group, said in reference to business tycoon and presidential candidate Badri Patarkatsishvili.

The group is planning to actively campaign in the regions, where it hopes it can make an impact on provincial students in particular.

The move is an apparent attempt to counter already highly-active opposition youth groups.
