Lavrov: Putin Never Threatened to Impose Cyprus Model on Georgia

Russian President Vladimir Putin never threatened to impose ?the Cyprus model? on Georgia, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on December 9.

President Saakashvili claimed on November 12 that last year his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, had personally threatened to impose, what he called, ?the Cyprus model? on Georgia and split the country in two.

?I will not comment on the allegation about ‘a second Cyprus’,? the Russian Foreign Ministry quoted Lavrov as saying in an interview with a Cypriot news agency. ?I can only say that Vladimir Putin has never threatened to do such a thing. Mikheil Saakashvili can deny his own allegation himself.?
