CEC Registers Three Opposition Presidential Candidates
The Central Election Commission (CEC) said on December 7 that it had registered Shalva Natelashvili, leader of the Labor Party; Levan Gachechiladze of the nine-party opposition party and Davit Gamkrelidze, leader of the New Rights Party, as presidential candidates.
The CEC registered Mikheil Saakashvili as an official candidate for the January 5 presidential election on December 6.
Nine other contenders have also submitted over 50,000 supporters’ signatures – a registration requirement – and the CEC is now in the process of rechecking the lists.
In the event of inaccuracies, the potential candidates will then have another two days to make corrections. The CEC will then make a final ruling on registration eligibility. The process should be finalised by December 11.
