‘Opposition Leaders Cooperate with Russian Intelligence’ – MIA
The Interior Ministry has issued taped audio and video materials through which the authorities claim that some opposition leaders were cooperating with the Russian counter-intelligence service.
The materials involve taped phone conversations of Shalva Natelashvili, leader of Labor Party; MP Levan Berdzenishvili of Republican Party and Giorgi Khaindrava, leader of opposition group Equality Institute, with men identified by the interior minister as “operatives of the Russian counter-intelligence”
“I will make a paper about political situation, about our party, our history and our goals, which I will send it to you,” a man’s voice said to be of Shalva Natelashvili’s tells a man identified by the interior ministry as the Russian counter-intelligence operative with the second name Sokolov.
In another taped phone conversation MP Levan Berdzenishvili speaking with the same person about Georgia’s plans towards the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
A video tape shot with hidden camera showed Giorgi Khaindrava meeting with a man, identified by the interior ministry as an operative of the Russian counter-intelligence.
Another video footage also showed Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, a brother of Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, the leader of the Freedom Party, meeting with a diplomat of the Russian embassy in Tbilisi.
In a separate taped phone conversation Tsotne Gamsakhurdia tells his brother, Konstantine, how the opposition could lose a momentum after gathering 150,000 people outside the Parliament on November 2.
