Burjanadze Calls for Calm, Dialogue

Opposition parties should not call on their supporters for new rallies, Nino Burjanadze, the parliamentary speaker, said.

?Much depends on calmness of each citizen,? she told reporters. ?We should maintain stability. It is not a time to speak with each other with ultimatums. I call on everyone to stop calling for rallies. We all should understand that we should not undertake any step that will make our enemies happy.?

?After the situation is calmed down and after we will be able to send back riot police back to their [bases] talks will be resumed. This is the only way out of this situation? I said yesterday that we were ready to hold serious negotiations on  three out of four opposition?s demands.?

The authorities said they would not even consider the opposition?s demand related with holding of parliamentary elections in spring, instead of late 2008.
