Spain’s Aqualia Offers USD 105 mln for Tbilisi Water – Newspaper

A subsidiary of Spain’s Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), Aqualia, has offered USD 105 million for the water distribution company in Tbilisi, the Georgian daily 24 Saati (24 Hours) reported on October 25.

The offer lodged by the Spanish company, according to the newspaper, is the highest one. Georgian officials, however, say that the proposed “paying high price is not enough.”

Of an initial ten, the Georgian Ministry of Economy has shortlisted six companies bidding for Tbilisi Water. Mtskheta water supply system, Gardabani sewage cleaning system and Zhinvali hydro power plant and water reservoir are also in the same auction lot as Tbilisi Water.

French-based Veolia Water, the world’s largest private water company, formerly known as Compagnie Générale des Eaux; British Biwater Plc’s subsidiary, Cascal; Bond Group; Penta Investments and Multiplex, are, along with Aqualia, competing for Tbilisi Water.
