CEC Rechecks Voter Lists

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has begun a recheck of voter lists in an attempt to minimize inaccuracies in the lists before the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for late 2008, new chairman of the CEC Levan Tarkhnishvili said on October 19.

He said 3,000 groups would carry out door-to-door rechecking of voter lists, which would last for the next 20 days.

Two representatives from three political parties – the ruling National Movement party and the opposition Industrialist and Labor parties ? will accompany each group. ?Hence, the transparency of the process will be guaranteed,? Tarkhnishvili said.
