Saakashvili in Tajikistan for CIS Summit

President Saakashvili left for Tajikistan on October 5 to participate in a summit of the heads of states from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Dushanbe.

President Saakashvili is accompanied by Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili.

It is not yet clear whether a bilateral meeting between the Georgian leader and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, will take place on the sideline of the summit.

Sergey Prikhodko, a top aide to Putin, told RIA Novosti news agency that a meeting hadn’t been ruled out.

The CIS leaders are expected to discuss a concept paper on the further development of the organization. Prikhodko told the Interfax news agency that Georgia and Azerbaijan were not involved in developing the last stage of the document.
