Kokoity Says Peacekeepers Need Air Defense System

Tskhinvali will ask the Russian Federation to equip its peacekeepers stationed in the South Ossetian conflict zone with an air defense system, Eduard Kokoity, the secessionist South Ossetian leader, told Interfax news agency on August 31.

?I intend to officially request that the Russian authorities deploy an air defense system in South Ossetia to prevent provocations by the Georgian side, similar to those which happened in early August [the August 6 missile incident],? Kokoity said.

?If Russian peacekeepers stationed in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone have an air defense system at their disposal, all the problems related to the so-called unidentified aircraft over South Ossetian territory will be removed,? he added.
