Abkhazia Launches Large-Scale Maneuvers
Large-scale military exercises were launched in breakaway Abkhazia on August 20, Apsnipress news agency reported.
The maneuvers involve a total of 6,000 servicemen, including four brigades, two regiments of reserve troops and 12 military units.
In early August Zakan Nanba, the deputy defense minister for the breakaway region, said that the exercises would be held in Ochamchire and at the Tsebelda training ground, which is close to Tbilisi-controlled Upper Kodori Gorge. Nanba, however, insisted that the maneuvers had nothing to do with the situation in the Tbilisi-controlled gorge.
