Commission to Assess Construction of Nuclear Reactor

A governmental commission has been set up to study the possibility of constructing a civil nuclear reactor in Georgia, Nika Gilauri, the energy minister, said on August 16.

Gilauri, who chairs the commission, said, ?its major task will be to study the positive and negative aspects of the project.?

The possible construction of a nuclear reactor in Georgia was discussed during a meeting between President Saakashvili and Anne Lauvergeon, the chief executive of a French nuclear energy company, AREVA, in Paris this June.
