Abkhaz Leader Meets Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

The Abkhaz leader, Sergey Bagapsh, met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gregory Karasin in Moscow on August 6, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“Moscow expects that quadripartite talks will soon be resumed,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The weekly quadripartite talks, known informally as the “Chuburkhinji sessions,” have not been held since November 2006. They used to involve representatives of the Georgian and Abkhaz sides, along with Russian peacekeepers and UN observers, to discuss routine ongoing developments in the conflict zone.
