Russia’s Positive Role can Resolve S.Ossetia in Months – Burjanadze
The conflict in South Ossetia “could be resolved in months” if Russia played a positive or “at least neutral” role, Nino Burjanadze, the Georgian parliamentary chairperson, said.
“And the conflict can be resolved in a manner, wherein all the sides will be satisfied,” Burjanadze said in an interview with the Russian newspaper, Vremya Novostei, published on July 31.
She said her optimism was based on the “very active efforts” undertaken by the Georgian authorities in relation to the political settlement of the conflict.
Burjanadze, however, was more cautious about Abkhazia, saying that although the situation was promising, “it will take much longer” to resolve the problem there.
She again warned Russia against the unilateral involvement of Abkhazia in the preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
